Epizootiological survey of pathogenic diseases of cultured fish species and development of effective preventive measures against endemic conditions. Competitive Agricultural Research Grant Scheme (CARGS: RFA 29), 2011 to 2014. (Publication 21). 2. Propagation of Gymnarchus niloticus seeds and its adoption for commercial production – a World Bank assisted nationally co-coordinated research project. (Publications 11, 15). 3. Isolation, pathogenicity and control of pathogens associated with some tropical freshwater fish species. (Publications 3, 7, 8, 18, 19, 20, 21). 4. Growth and survival of the fry of selected cultivable fish species nursed on live first food sources. (Publications 9, 11, 15). (b) In Progress 1. Investigating maternal transfer of immunity against columnaris disease via vaccination with formalin killed bacterin. The causal agent of columnaris disease; Flavobacterium columnare has been isolated and characterized. Formalin killed bacterin will be produced from the organism as soon as new ELISA kit for Igm, required for the evaluation of antibody production is procured. Vaccinated fish will be experimentally challenged to evaluate the development of protective immunity. 2. Fry mortality syndrome in African catfish hatcheries; Aetiology and pathobiology. Three (3) of the five (5) bacteria isolated from both fry and fishmeal diet of fry have been characterized and identified as Pseudomonas sp. Aeromonas hydrophila and Vibrio sp. The other two are yet to be fully characterised. Antibiotic sensitivity has been carried out on all isolates, and experimental infection trial of catfish fry with identified organisms is on-going. Efficient control of bacterial pathogens in catfish hatcheries will enhance productivity. 3. Evaluation of the effects of acidifier and some common disinfectants in the control of multi-drug resistant bacteria pathogens isolated from fish meal. Two multi-drug resistant bacteria organisms were isolated from sick catfish fry and the fish meal diet they were given. Study on the characterisation and identification is on-going. Evaluation of the susceptibility of these organisms to acidifier and some common disinfectants will aid the development of efficient bio-security measures in catfish hatcheries. 3 (c) Project, Dissertation and Thesis 1. Climatic effects of the patterns of outbreak of infectious bursitis (Gumboro disease) in Ibadan. DVM project, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. 1988. Pp 51. 2.
