 1603- Gibbons became a member of the Chapel Royal
 1605- Appointed its organist
 June 5, 1625- Died in Canterbury, United Kingdom
• Considered the leading English composer of his
generation
 Positions Held:
 Organist of the Royal Chapel
 Keyboard player in the privy chamber of the all-
important court of Prince Charles
 Organist at Westminster Abbey.
 Holding the position among the private musicians of
Prince Charles (King Charles I) helped to inaugurate
one of the greatest eras in chamber music that
Western music has seen.
