Cell Structures Mind Map
**YOU are responsible for having the assignment completed and turned in correctly according to
teacher directions on the due date.** (If you work diligently, this project can be completed in the
time allotted in class.)
Objective: The purpose of this lab is to better understand the functions of the various organelles
in a typical cell. You will decide upon a theme for your cell and explain how each organelle plays a
role in that theme.
Directions:
1. Decide upon a theme for your cell. Once you have chosen a theme (each theme can only be
used once per class period), sign up for it on the Promethean board.
2. Decide if you want your mind map to represent a plant or an animal cell.
3. Using GoogleDocs, create a word-processed mind map that shows a picture representing the
job of each organelle (not a picture of the actual organelle!) in your cell theme as well as a
written explanation (complete sentences!) of why the organelle represents that part of your
theme. See the example below for details.
4. Include at the beginning of the document your theme (as described in the example) as well as
animal or plant cell, your name, and your class period.
Example: The animal cell is like a school because…
The golgi apparatus is like the TV studio of the school because the golgi
apparatus packages and secretes important products just as the TV studio
packages and releases important school information through channel 3
The nucleus is like the main office of the school because… etc.
5. In your mind map, include ALL of the following parts that are applicable to a plant cell or an
animal cell.
