Symbiotic Relationships Mr. Troshak Symbiosis • Symbiosis-A close relationship where at least one species benefits and the other species is unharmed, benefits or is harmed. Mutualism • Mutualism- Where both species benefit • • Example: Egyptian Plover Bird and Crocodile Explanation of Relationship: The Egyptian Plover bird benefits from getting food while the crocodile benefits from getting food removed from teeth. Commensalism • Commensalism: Where on species benefits and the other is not harmed. • • • Example: Cattle Egret and Cattle Explanation of relationship: The cattle egret forages in pastures and fields among livestock such as cattle or horses. They feed on the insects stirred up from the gazing cattle. The cattle egret get food and the cattle are unharmed. Video Parasitism • Parasitism- Relationship between species within an ecosystem where on species benefits (parasite) and the other species is harmed (host) • • • • Example: Fleas and dogs Explanation: The fleas feed on the blood of the dog, the dogs are harmed.
