Section 4.1
Congruent Polygons
Section 4.1
How do we know if two figures are
congruent?
1. All of the matching sides are the same
2. All of the matching angles are the same
Basically, the shapes are identical to each other.
Section 4.1
Naming two congruent shapes with a
Congruence Statement.
When stating that two shapes are congruent it is important that the
letters of each shape are written in the same order.
Example:
XMLPQ
Polygon ABCDE = Polygon __________
Section 4.1
Find the matching parts between the shapes
XM
AB = _______
<P
<D = _______
DE
QP = _______
<B
<M = _______
Section 4.1
What we can determine from a congruence
statement?
Example:
Triangle ABC = Triangle HFG
Which Angles are congruent? Which Sides are congruent?
Section 4.1
What we can determine from a congruence
statement.
Triangle GKD = Triangle LSP
Which angles are congruent?
Which sides are congruent?
Section 4.1
Are the shapes below congruent?
Yes, all of the matching sides and all of the matching angles are
congruent.
Section 4.1
Are the shapes below congruent?
We can not determine if the shapes are congruent because we don’t
have the necessary info about the sides and angles.
