Marsh Biome

Physical Characteristics
 Freshwater
marsh are usually found near
the mouths of rivers or areas that have
low drainage. Ex: Lakes, Ponds, Streams.
 Freshwater marsh biomes include
sediment found at the bottom of the
area.
 The water rarely moves, therefore it stays
the same size, depending on the rainfall.
Locations
 Freshwater
Marsh are commonly found in
the Gulf Coast region specifically in
Florida. Florida Everglades is the largest
freshwater marsh in the world.
 Ex: Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Delaware,
and even in parts of Europe.
Average Temps & Rainfall
 The
average weather in the Florida
freshwater marsh is sunny and in the 80’s.
 In the winter, the high is normally about 77
degrees. In the summer it is on average 90
degrees with the humidity of 90%.
 Mosquitos are abundant in all freshwater
Marsh biomes.
 The average rainfall per year in the Florida
freshwater marsh is about 60 inches.
Freshwater Marsh Flora.
Typical flora found in the freshwater marsh
are:
 Cattails
 Water lilies
 Arrowhead plants
 Pickerelweed
Freshwater Marsh Fauna
There are many different types of species in
the freshwater Marsh biome.
These animals include:
 Birds
 Fish
 Alligators
 Frogs
 Turtles
Unique Features



There are over 700 different species of fish
that live in the water of the freshwater biome.
Smaller bodies of water such as ditches and
puddles are also considered freshwater
biomes.
Every freshwater biome is unique because
they all contain a range of animal and plant
species, different climate, and various
amounts of water. No two biomes are alike.
