Is your Child Well Enough?
Often your child will say they want to go to nursery even if
They feel unwell. It must be your decision as children are not able
to judge whether they are fit or not. We know that you would not
intentionally put other children at risk of catching an infection.
Becoming unwell at nursery
If your child becomes unwell at nursery we will contact you or one
of your emergency contacts to come and collect your child.
We will make sure your child is kept as comfortable as possible
while we wait on someone collecting them.
For this reason it is important to keep your child’s emergency
contacts up to date.
If your child is unwell
Please phone the nursery – 715728 – and let us know your child
will not be at nursery.
St John’s Nursery
As you are aware infection spreads easily amongst young children.
If your child is unwell they should stay at home as this will help their
recovery and limit the spread of infection to other children and
staff within the nursery.

Chickenpox
Chickenpox is infectious 1- 2 days before the spots appear and up
to 5 days after the spots develop. Children should return to nursery
once the spots have crusted over and when the child feels well.
Diarrhoea and / or Vomiting
Diarrhoea and / or vomiting are infectious whilst the symptoms last.
Children should return to nursery 48 hours after the last bout of
diarrhoea or vomiting
Measles
Measles are infectious for 1 day before the rash appears and for 4
days after the onset of the rash. Children should return to nursery
no sooner than 5 days after rash appears and when child feels well.

Rubella (German Measles)

after rash appears and when the child feels well.

Whooping Cough
Impetigo
Impetigo is a skin condition which is infectious whilst spots are
‘weepy’. Children should only return to nursery when spots are dry
and crusted over.
