IRS Tax-Exempt Status
Generally, gifts of cash, check, money order or bank draft should be sent to:
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
P.O. Box 4486
Houston, Texas 77210-4486
As a component of The University of Texas (UT) System, MD Anderson Cancer Center is described in section
170 of the Internal Revenue Code. Charitable contributions are deductible on federal tax returns subject to the
limits allowed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). MD Anderson’s employer identification number (EIN) is
74-6000203.
No change has occurred in the exempt status, purpose, character or method of operation subsequent to the
March 20, 1984, issuance of the IRS ruling. However, in 1988 the Board of Regents of the UT System
approved the institutional name change from The University of Texas System Cancer Center to The University
of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. And on October 9, 1997, the IRS issued a letter reconfirming the
exempt status of the institution.
The institution is not a private foundation as defined by Section 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. The
institution is not required to file a Form 990.
Some foundations or estates are restricted by their governing instruments from making charitable gifts to any
institution that does not come under the provisions of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The
University of Texas Foundation, Inc. can accept gifts from these entities on behalf of MD Anderson. The
UT Foundation then delivers the assets to MD Anderson.
In addition to gifts of cash and marketable securities, the UT Foundation also accepts unconventional gifts
including real estate, personal property, leases, working interests, oil royalties and equipment.
If a gift to MD Anderson must be made to a 501(c)(3) organization, please make the gift to the UT Foundation
at the address below and indicate that the gift is for MD Anderson Cancer Center, a component of The
University of Texas System.

functions independently of the System under its own board of directors.
