Angle and Angle Pair Notes
Acute Angle – An angle that is less than 90 degrees
Obtuse Angle – An angle that is greater than 90 degrees
Right Angle – An angle that is exactly 90 degrees
Straight Angle – An angle that is exactly
180 degrees and forms a straight line
≅
Congruent – Two objects are congruent
if they are identical when
superimposed. In other words, they are
congruent if one can be placed on top
of the other and they match perfectly.
150°
Vertical Angles – A pair of
congruent angles that are across
from each other where two lines
cross.
They are called “vertical” angles
because they share the same
vertex, not because they are
oriented up and down.
Whenever two lines cross they
form two pairs of vertical angles.

Adjacent Angles – A pair of angles that
share the same vertex and share one
side.
Supplementary Angles –
A pair of angles whose
measures add up to 180°.
The angles may or may
40°
not be adjacent.

Parallel Lines – Two lines in the
same plane that never meet.
Transversal – A line that
crosses two other lines.
Interior Region – The
space in between two
parallel lines.
Exterior
Interior
Exterior Region – The
area that lies outside
two parallel lines
(NOT between).
Exterior
Alternate Interior Angles – A pair of congruent angles formed
when a transversal crosses two parallel lines. These angles are on
opposite (alternate) sides of the transversal and are located
between the parallel lines (the interior).
Alternate Exterior Angles – A pair of congruent angles formed
when a transversal crosses two parallel lines. These angles are
on opposite (alternate) sides of the transversal and are located
outside the parallel lines (the exterior).
Same Side Interior Angles – A pair of supplementary angles formed
when a transversal crosses two parallel lines. These angles are on
the same side of the transversal and are located between the parallel
lines (the interior).
Same Side Exterior Angles – A pair of supplementary angles formed
when a transversal crosses two parallel lines. These angles are on
the same side of the transversal and are located outside the parallel
lines (the exterior).
Corresponding Angles – A pair of congruent angles formed when a
transversal crosses two parallel lines. These angles lie in the same
position at both intersections along the transversal.
