The gods and goddesses do more harm than good and should be kicked out of society. Hera is
a prime example of a god that should be kicked out of society. Hera should be gotten rid of
because she is dangerous and is always out to get someone.
Many other people believe that the heavenly Hera is great and never selfish. The opposing side
believes that Hera should be kept in society. They believe this because they think that we need
someone who is harsh and cruel in society today. This supposedly would stop wars and keep
people in fear of breaking the law.
Although the opposition believes that gods should be kept in society, the gods actually do
harmful things for humans. One example is when Hera sent snakes to Heracles, who was a
baby, to try and kill him because he was the son of Zeus’s affair. Another example includes,
Artemis, who killed Adonis in a fit of revenge for Aphrodite killing her favorite, Hippolytus.
Unfortunately, there are many gods that behave in this manner and many other bad ways. The
article, “Myths of Apollo” states that Apollo shot poisoned arrows a Greek camp causing a
deadly plague that killed thousands. It also states that he also caused the death of Coronis, who
did not love him, by manipulating Artemis, who would never turn down a challenge, to shoot and
kill her. Along with this he caused Daphne, whom he was chasing, to turn into a tree, which the
article also states. Zeus lured woman to him and had affairs with them, angering Hera and
putting his lovers and their children in danger. Hades kidnapped and tricked Persephone into
having to come and stay in the underworld, causing the Earth to become dry and barren in
Demeter’s wake. Many of these things could wreak havoc on human society today. Many of the
gods would also be considered criminals in human society today too. For example, Hermes was
a stealer and stole many things, such as Apollo’s cattle. He also turned a man to stone,
probably killing the poor shepherd. Another example includes Athena, who turned Medusa into
a monster that would turn anything to stone. Medusa, eventually, was slain by Perseus. Apollo,
Hera, Hephaestus, and most likely Ares too would also be considered criminals, some with
outstanding warrants, such as Ares with war crimes, or Hera with a long line of injuries.
Even though many gods have some amazing and useful abilities that may benefit society today,
their actions and behavior in general cause them to be kicked out of society today. With their
selfishness and overall harshness would not allow them to be in human society today.
