Benefits Overview
HealthChoice is Maryland’s Medicaid managed care program. It includes the Maryland Children's Health
Insurance Program and Medical Assistance for Families. Here’s a summary of the HealthChoice benefits you
get as an Amerigroup Community Care member.
Primary care
Maintaining good physical health is important. With Amerigroup, you go to one main person for your health
care. He or she can be a doctor, a nurse practitioner or a physician assistant. This person is called your
primary care provider or PCP. Amerigroup has a network of doctors and nurses who assist our members. To
find a provider in your area, use the Find A Doctor link.
Behavioral health
You can get help through fee-for-service Medicaid if you or someone in your family is experiencing problems
with depression, anxiety, family issues, alcohol, or drug abuse. To learn more, visit the Maryland Department
of Health and Mental Hygiene website.
Pharmacy
Amerigroup has a list of drugs you or your doctor can choose from. This list is called a formulary. The
formulary lists covered medicines. The covered medicines include prescription and certain nonprescription
(over-the-counter) medicines. Copays may apply.
Amerigroup offers an extra over-the-counter benefit. Each member can get up to $15 worth of certain
over-the-counter products every three months with a prescription.
You can get prescriptions filled at pharmacies in the Amerigroup network. To find an Amerigroup network
pharmacy, use the Find a Doctor link. If you do not know if a pharmacy is in the network, ask the pharmacist.
You can also call Member Services for help.
Vision care
Covered services for members under 21 years of age include exams once a year, and eyeglasses and contact
lenses when medically needed.

Extra benefits
As an Amerigroup member, you also get extra benefits, including:
 24-hour Nurse HelpLine
 Enhanced adult vision benefits
 Adult dental benefits for members age 21 and older
- Cleanings twice a year
- Oral exams twice a year - Limited dental X-rays, extractions and fillings
- 20-percent discount on all other dental services
- Maximum benefit of $250 per calendar year
 $15 over-the-counter benefit every three months
 Health education classes
 Taking Care of Baby and Me®, a program for pregnant women and new moms
