Greek Faculty Achievement award, 2003 and 2001; John Ruffatto Memorial Award, 2001; School of Business
Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding Teaching Award, 2007, 2005 and 1998; Elected to Phi Kappa Phi honor
society, voted on by The University of Montana faculty and students, 1998; Selected as one of eighty professors
in the United States in Marketing Communications to participate in the Industry/Faculty seminars sponsored by
the International Radio and Television Society Foundations, New York City, February 1994, 1995; Listed in
“Who’s Who in Fund Raising Management, 1995; Received the YWCA Certificate of Achievement Award,
1992, 1993; Recognized as a Finalist for The University of Montana Burlington Northern Distinguished
Teaching Award, 1986, 1985; Selected as the Beta Alpha Psi (accounting honor society) Outstanding Teacher,
1983; Voted Most Inspirational Teacher by Silent Sentinel Honorary, 1981; Selected as Outstanding Consultant
for the State of Montana, 1980.
Research awards include the flowing: Received two Distinguished Research Awards from Allied Academies,
2002 and 2001; received the “Top Paper in Track Award” from Association of Marketing Theory and Practice,
2002; received the George A. Brakeley Award for the Outstanding Scholarly Article in the field of healthcare
philanthropy, 1995. Note: One the article, entitled “Attracting and Keeping Volunteers through a Qualifications
System,” was published in the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy Journal, in 1994, and is still used as a
model by hospitals throughout the U.S.
Scholarly Publications and Presentations
Have published over thirty-five scholarly articles in various academic journals such as the Journal of Business
Communications, Personnel Administrator, Business Horizons, Montana Business Communication Quarterly,
AT&T Magazine, American Business Communications Bulletin, The Association for Business Communications
Journal, Journal of Health Care Philanthropy, The Journal of Global Business, Journal of Marketing Studies,
The Academy of Educational Leadership Journal. Note: the article entitled “The Continuing Influence of
Minerva,” published in the Journal of Health Care Philanthropy in 1992 has been used as a prototype to
develop Foundation Affinity Groups for medical centers in Arizona, Texas, California, Tennessee, and
South America. Have published articles in numerous proceedings of meetings of scholarly organizations.
Professional Activities (National 1992-20011)
Presented over sixty speeches and presentations in the past ten years. Many of these were keynote
presentations for national organizations; served on ten professional committees or boards of directors for
national organizations; served on the editorial review boards and as a reviewer for the Journal of Business
Communications and the Journal of Health Care Philanthropy; served as a page-by-page or chapter textreviewer for thirty books on Business Communications and Marketing Communications. Manuscript Reviewer
for the Association of Marketing Theory and Practice. Member of: American Marketing Association,
Association for Healthcare Philanthropy; Association for Business Communications; Association for Marketing
Theory and Practice.
Private Sector Employment
Executive Director, Community Medical Center Foundation, Missoula; In House Consultant with California
Federal Bank, on leave from the University of Montana as a project manager for one year. Held Advertising
and Public Relations Positions with J. Walter Thompson Advertising Agency, New York City; Olivetti, New
