By: Ashley Elliott Conjecture-an unproven statement that is based on observations. Distance formula-a formula for computing the distance between two points in a coordinate plane. Angle bisector-a ray that divides an angle into two adjacent angles that are congruent. Skew lines-lines that are not coplanar and do not intersect. Transversal-a line that intersects two or more coplanar lines at different points. Corresponding Angles Postulate-If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of corresponding angles are congruent. Isosceles triangle-two sides are equal (congruent). If two sides of a triangle are congruent, then the angles opposite these sides are equal. Equilateral triangle-equiangular. Isosceles Triangle Polygon-2 dimensional closed-form figure made of non-intersecting line segments. Diagonal-line from one vertex to the other. Parallelogram-a quadrilateral with both pairs of sides parallel. Image-the new figure after it is reflected, rotated, or translated. Isometry-a transformation that preserves lengths, angle measures, parallel lines, and distances between points. Rotational symmetry-a figure has rotational symmetry if it can be mapped onto itself by a rotation of 180 degrees or less. Similar polygons-Two polygons such that their corresponding angles are congruent and the lengths of corresponding sides are proportional. Proportion-an equation that equates two ratios. Postulate 25 (Angle-Angle Similarity Postulate)-If two angles of one triangle are congruent to two angles of another triangle, then the two triangles are similar. Pythagorean Theorem-In a right triangle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the lengths of the legs. Special right triangles-right triangles whose angle measures are 45-45-90 or 30-60-90. Trigonometric ratio-a ratio of the lengths of two sides of a right triangle. The three basic trigonometric ratios are sine, cosine, and tangent. Central angle-an angle whose vertex is the center of a circle. Inscribed polygon-If all the vertices to a polygon lie on a circle, the polygon is inscribed in the circle. Inscribed angle-angle whose vertex is on the circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle. N-gon- a polygon that has many sides, specifically n. Circumference- the distance around a circle. Apothem- the height of the triangle between the center and two consecutive vertices in the inscribed polygon. Polyhedron-a solid that is bounded by polygons, called faces, that enclose a single region of space. Cylinder-a solid with congruent circular bases that lie in parallel planes. Volume of a solid- The number of cubic units contained in its interior. Volume is measured in cubic units, such as cubic meters.
