China
China is located in Asia, near Mongolia and Russia. The first ancient Chinese
dynasty, started in 2205 BC by the Hsia family. Emperor Ch’in made China a
whole country in 221 BC. The last emperor was Qin, he held the country up for
until the end. So many country’s wanted to steal all over China’s amazing
invention’s, for example gun powder, rockets, crossbows, silk, etc. Qin even built
the Great Wall of China for protection from the other jealous cities in the area.
Qin also made the Terracotta warriors for protection for himself in the afterlife.
The Chinese citizens respected Qin so much that they buried him with fine
vessels and precious stones.
This is a map of China in the 21 century that is now all one country. 
Protection
Emperor Qin built the Great Wall of China.
It works by keeping trespassers out of China for a little while,
until soldiers can come and sort things out.
It is usually holding off the other jealous cities that are trying to get in and steal
their creations. (Discoveries)
Hair triggered cross bows are said to be protecting Emperor Qin, but his tomb
has not been excavated yet because of this reason. Hair triggered crossbows are
like a normal crossbow but it is set to shoot for the weight of one hair or heavier.
 It is protecting the emperor from being disturbed or moved away.
The Terracotta Warriors were built to protect Emperor Qin in the after-life, so
he would not have to be one man fighting in the after-life, he will have whole
army!
The walls in China were built with very few windows, and if there were they
would be very small. This was decided to help to protect the city so no one can
shoot or climb into the windows.
Connections
The Great Wall of China reminds me of the time I actually walked on it in the
fall break of 2009. I went to Beijing because my parents had friends their, the
Johanson’s, and we went to visit them. They also remind me of when the ISB
school, came to Kobe for the APAC and I went and visited that school in Winter
Break.
Hair Triggered Crossbows remind me of Dan’s crossbow that he is making for
his model in the technology essay. I would be pretty scared being on the team
that is trying to get into Emperor Quo’s tomb, because hair triggered
crossbows….. Yeah I’m scared!
The Terracotta Warriors remind me of the movie Narnia the lion the witch and
the wardrobe, because the battle that they have in one scene looks like the
terracotta warriors all ready for battle.
Egypt
Egypt is located in Africa, in the northeast part of Africa. The first Egyptians, in
5000 BC, were the settlers who lived on the Nile as farmers. Than more settles
came and they decided a ruler. The Egyptians were very protective of their
pyramids and tombs, because the pyramids had important jewels and a lot of
gold to show appreciation for their now dead king or queen. They even declared
that every citizen had to have a bronze or scimit dagger to protect them self if
evil comes near. This Egyptians also were very protective and well aware of
what happens in important pharos or Queens Pyramids. In the pyramids, to
help confuse tomb robbers, they built granite doors, false passageways, and fake
burial chambers. If a guard caught a tomb robber, they would punish them by
sticking a thick, pointy, wooden stick threw them for their greediness and
selfishness.
Fact Box
The ancient Egyptians did not refer to
their Kings as Pharaohs. The word
Pharaoh comes from the Greek
language and was used by the Greeks
and Hebrews to refer to the Kings of
Egypt. Today, we also use the
word Pharaoh when referring to the
kings of Egypt.

Connections
People in Ancient Egypt used bronze and scimit daggers to protect themselves
from bad people. In our time, people use cameras, guns, sensors, etc. They are
related because they hurt or threat bad people. The bronze knife (below),
reminds me of guns because if you stab someone (in a specific spot) they die, just
like shooting someone, they die instantly.

Sarcophaguses were used in the Ancient Egyptian times. A Sarcophagus is a
kind of long, shaped box to hold a rapped King or Queen’s dead body. Something
that reminds me of a sarcophagus in our time is a coffin in a grave.
In Ancient Egyptian times, a long, thick, pointy wooden stick is used to kill a
tomb robber that was caught by guards. This item reminds me of a spear,
because they are both really pointy and usually made out of wood.

False Passageways are passageways that trick thieves into going the wrong
direction of where they wanted to go. It reminds me of a book I read called The
Terracotta Girl, that is about a little girl and she goes into the terracotta army
statues place to build her figure to fight with the king in the after life. It takes
months and the little girl begs, “Please can we go, can we go?!” Finally when
they leave they take a secret passageway out.
Fake Burial Chambers remind me of the process of how the Egyptians rap the
dead body. 
It is a long and complicated process. It is because the servants have to 1)
specially rap the body with led lining and 2) They have to cut open the body and
take special origins and the heart out!
The Great Sphinx reminds me of a lion (because it basically is one) It is really
interesting because the head looks like, part lion part human. ??interesting??

Protection
Sarcophagus is another word for coffin because it is used for the same purpose,
to keep a dead King or Queen’s rapped body safe from being harmed.
Long, thick, pointy wooden stick’s are used to kill, caught tomb robbers. It is
used by sticking the front pointy part through the tomb robbers back. Ouch!!
False Passageways were used to trick tomb robbers or any kinds of robbers from
finding whatever they were looking for. Usually, the false passageways lead to
traps. The traps usually led the trespasser to death. 
Fake Burial Chambers are used in Pyramids. It is a place that looks like a real
burial chamber, but it is fake to outsmart an intruder. Then the intruder will
probably be caught or killed by traps inside the fake burial chamber.
The Great Sphinx was a gigantic lion that was used like a scarecrow, to guard
the burial chamber of Chephren. The Great Sphinx is a really interesting
sculpture! I think it should be counted as one of the Wonders of the World.
Japan
Japan is located in Asia near Russia. One very interesting thing about the
Japanese, were there belief in spirits, especially bad ones. To prevent evil
spirits to haunt or give bad luck to a family or person, they would stick giant tall
rocks with kanji symbols around their house, fields, and barns to prevent bad
luck to the family. Also to protect there city from being attacked, the would
build tall walls with very few, small, windows so nobody could shoot or climb up
into the city. The houses that were by lakes or/and rivers were pretty much
always on stilts for flood protection and for a harder time for a crook to get up
into the house.
This is a picture of a “good luck rock”. I took this picture at the Museum of
Ethnology in Osaka.
The Aztecs
The Aztecs were very religious people. They were very fond of the gods and
never wanted to upset them (usually) For example, warriors and priests
surrounded the temple of Quetzalcoatl, the god of priests, to protect the sacred
temple (pyramid). The Aztecs made their walls very strong that privacy and
safety, were guaranteed.  Even though the city was pretty safe lawyers and
inspectors walked around the markets waiting to witness crime.
But then a comet hit them in 1517 and they knew, bad things were going to
happen. The empire collapses in 1521 after Cortes arrived and took over.

plant islands.
Protection
Warriors and Priests were always surrounding the temple of Quetzalcoatl, the
god of priests, he was a very important god. They do this so no harm will come
to the temple and nothing bad can happen that can get them into trouble with
the god.
There were different kinds of crime punishments such as small crimes and big
crimes. If it is like a small crime like stealing, you will have to work until the
money is paid. But if it is a big crime like murdering or talking bad about the
gods, uhh ohh you’re in for a painful death. 
Another thing that the Aztecs were very good at, was building strong structures.
The walls around the city were made so well, they guaranteed privacy and
protect. 
Even though the city was pretty safe, Lawyers and Inspectors would still be
wondering around the markets waiting, just in case if something bad happened.
Connections
The priests and warriors surrounding the temples of Quetzalcoatl, remind me of
Night of the Museum the movie. In the movie there is part where they show a
display of a part of the Aztec empire and a bunch of little plastic Aztec people
who come to life at night.
The small crimes in the Aztec times remind me of the small crimes in our time.
If a kid breaks something, they usually are forgiven or they are punished, for
example being grounded or not being able to play with friends for a week.
The lawyers wondering around the markets, remind me of being in a grocery
store, the assistance are kind of like lawyers because they are there to witness
(not like anything really serious will happen) or to help with you shopping. 
