To this aim, he connects his basic research areas with interdisciplinary applications. His research interests are based on knowledge extraction from data and discovery of novel machine learning methodology to capture insights otherwise hidden from human perception. He employs artificial intelligence, machine learning, data mining, cognitive modeling, and natural language processing. Short professional biography: Marko Robnik-Šikonja is Associate Professor of Computer Science and Informatics at University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Informatics from University of Ljubljana in 2001. His research interests span machine learning, data mining, knowledge discovery in databases, cognitive modeling, natural language processing and application of data mining techniques. His most notable scientific results concern feature evaluation, ensemble learning, probabilistic modeling, cost-sensitive learning, and regression. He is (co)author of approximately 90 scientific publications that were cited more than 2600 times according to Google Scholar. He is author and maintainer of three open source R data mining packages.
