Astronomy 30: Quiz Guidelines – Nov 4 There will be a short quiz on Nov.4. Our last quiz covered significant figures, the scale of the solar system, and the ecliptic, etc. So, the quiz this Thursday will cover • • • • • • • orbits of planets and eccentricity (basic) kepler’s laws (e.g., planets move faster as they approach, slower as they move away from the sun) relative brightness of stars o which is brighter a 0 magnitude star or 1 magnitude o if the difference in magnitudes is 2, the difference is brightness is (2.5122) … where does the energy of stars come from evolution of stars (stages) if a star is hotter is it bluer or redder? where does a star spend most of its lifetime on an HR diagram? We will have a quick review before the quiz.
