HOMEOSTATIC IMBALANCES of BONE:
OSTEOPOROSIS
- Disease which bone resorption outpaces
bone deposit – bone mass is reduced
(compact bone is lighter and porous; spongy
bone has less trabeculae)
- Affect aging people and postmenopausal
women
- Get enough calcium & Vitamin D when
your body is developing dense bone tissue
or take calcium & Vitamin D supplements
ARTHRITIS =joint disorder in which over 100
different inflammatory or degenerative diseases
damage joints
OSTEOARTHRITIS (OA)85% of
paging people in US are affected; degenerative
arthritis that affects the articular cartilage breaks
down and exposed one thickens producing bone
spurs that restrict movements
RHEMATOID ARTHRITIS (RA) 
chronic inflammatory disorder; autoimmune
disorder in which the body’s immune system
attempts to destroy its own tissue
GOUTY ARTHRITIS disease in
which uric acid (normal waste product)
accumulates in the blood and and deposited
as needle-shaped crystals in soft tissue of
joints – men genetic
HERNIATED DISCS = drying of the
fibrocartialage disscs (or pads) between
vertebrae and weakening of the ligaments
SCOLIOSIS (abnormal lateral curvature of
back) KYPHOSIS (hunchback), and
LORDOSIS (swayback)= abnormal curvatures
of the spine caused by congenital, poor posture,
or unequal muscle pull
RICKETS = disease in children in which bones
fail to calcify 9not common in US)
BURSITIS = water on the knee due to
inflammation of the bursae or synovial
membranes
