• Question 11.25 (p. 361): Determinants of national birth rates (y) by
Literacy (x1) and Economic activity (x2).
• Question11.43 (p. 363): Determinants of quality of life index (y) by
multiple x variables
• We will use the Newworld.sav database in SPSS to see if we can
replicate or supplement these models.
Steps: Determinants of Birth Rates
• Access the newworld.sav database
• Look at the explanation and results from question 11.25 from p. 363
• Look at the scatterplot for emerging nations (next slide)
• Construct your regression model.
• Compare your results with the the numbers in question 11.25.

and explanation of the index. These numbers have been added to the
newworld database (1st variable).

• Look at the scatterplot (next slide)
