GRADE 6 GRAMMAR REVIEW PRACTICE
 Write a sentence using an interjection as a strong emotion and
another sentence using a weak emotion (use proper punctuation - !
follows strong interjections and a , follows weak interjections)
Example – Terrific! What a fantastic performance that was! STRONG INTERJECTION
Shh, the baby is sleeping. WEAK INTERJECTION

Identify the type of conjunction and what it joins. Remember
subordinating conjunctions ALWAYS join clauses.
Example – Ellen either walks or bikes to school.
– Joins words (walks bikes)
My new book was neither in my room nor in the car. –Joins phrases
The class was busy all weekend because they were studying for the exam. – Joins Clauses

Write a sentence using the word as indicated.
Examples: use ball as a direct object I threw the ball.
Use Mary as an indirect object I threw Mary the ball.
BOTH DIRECT AND INDIRECT OBJECTS FOLLOW ACTION VERBS.
Examples: use hungry as a predicate adjective Joe is hungry.
Use president as a predicate noun Joe is the president.
BOTH PREDICATE NOUNS AND PREDICATE ADJECTIVES ALWAYS FOLLOW LINKING VERBS.
 Identify the prepositional phrase and determine if it is an adjective or
adverb phrase and what word it modifies.
Examples: Mary ran down the street.
Phrase is down the street - Adverb Phrase - modifies ran
The book on the shelf is mine. Phrase is on the shelf - Adjective Phrase - modifies book
If a phrase modifies a NOUN it is an ADJECTIVE PHRASE. If the phrase modifies a verb, adverb, or
adjective it is an ADVERB PHRASE.
 Know the difference between words used as prepositions and adverbs.
Examples: We seem to have left the puppy behind. ADVERB
My coat is in the closet behind the boxes. PREPOSITION
