SURFACE AREA
Surface Area is the sum of the areas of all of the faces of a solid figure.
Lateral Surface Area is the sum of the areas of the lateral faces of a solid figure. In
other words, it is the sum of the areas of all of the faces except the bases.
The faces of a solid figure defined as bases depend on the shape of the figure. Prisms
have two parallel congruent bases and lateral faces that are rectangles. Pyramids have
one base and lateral faces that are triangles. Cylinders have two circular bases.
BASE
The lateral faces of a solid figure are the faces that are not the bases. In a prism, they are
rectangles, and in a pyramid, they are triangles.
A net is a two-dimensional diagram of a solid figure.
SURFACE AREA
The height of a prism or cylinder is the distance between the two bases. In other words,
it is the length of the edge that connects the two bases. The height of a pyramid is the
distance from the apex (the point) to the base of the pyramid.
HEIGHT
The slant height of a pyramid is the height of each triangular lateral face of a pyramid.
