- A reminder for hospitals who have not completed the Life Saving Drugs Register survey (Antidotes) to enable
an update of information available on the NSWTAG website.

-Incidents have been reported of unsatisfactory spinal block with the use of Marcain Spinal 0.5% Heavy
(bupivacaine) by Astra Zeneca. At present there is no safety notice or drug withdrawal notice from either the
Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA) or the sponsor Astra Zeneca. The TGA is aware of a number of
reports of the problem and is monitoring the situation. A notice has been posted on the College of
Anaesthetists website. Your assistance is requested to forward this information to all relevant staff and to
remind staff to notify the TGA if they experience unsatisfactory spinal block with this product at:
