Abstract:
Voltage sag and short interruption are increasingly hot spots for the concern of power quality. This paper
presents the application over ten years of more than a thousand sets of voltage-sag protection equipment by
Golden Cooperate in China,covering power plant, petrochemical, coal chemical, chemical fiber and
semiconductor industries. From the original data from on-site equipment and by data mining method, main
causes of voltage sag are analyzed. The analysis results are presented according to various industries and
geographical regions as well as case analysis are discussed. Finally conclusions are given.

Voltage sags seriously influence the operation of sensitive industrial loads. This paper analyzes the
main causes of voltage sags in different industries and different areas in China, by the original data and
on-site survey.
The result shows that the main causes of voltage sags in power plants is high-voltage transmission
line faults, given the fact that the configuration and the protection of distribution network in the power
plant are generally rather reliable, while in other industries the causes of voltage sags is mostly natural
disasters and followed by the line faults of their distribution network.
In addition, relevant natural disasters are mainly strong winds and severe snow in northwest and
northeast in China, and lightning, typhoons and other severe convective weather in the southeast
coastal region in China. Moreover, the reliability of distribution network significantly influences their
industry users.
The analysis results may offer a reference for sensitive industrial users particular in China to the
treatment strategy of voltage sags.
