Policy Statement
 This policy sets out the broad principles underpinning volunteering within DANA.
 DANA values the contribution made by individuals who freely give their time to
further the aims of the Association.

Volunteering requires a commitment of time and energy. It is undertaken freely and by
choice without concern for financial gain.
Volunteers provide their services in various roles throughout all DANA activities
including:
 Serving on committees within DANA and with partnering organisations
 Fundraising
 Pro bono professional services
 Consumer and carer input into specific projects
 Membership of working parties.
These examples illustrate the range and scope of volunteering activities within DANA.
However they do not necessarily represent all the forms of volunteering that takes place at
present or may take place in the future.
Volunteers are required to:
 abide by DANA Policies and Procedures 2013-2015 and the DANA Operations
Manual 2012-2015, or subsequent updates;

be reliable, honest and mindful of DANA’s good name (e.g. a state of intoxication
while representing DANA is not acceptable);
report back as required.

Volunteers do not have the authority to act on behalf of DANA without the specific
authority to do so given by the Management Committee.
Volunteers who act outside of these parameters or those outlined in this policy may be
discontinued.
Recognition
DANA recognises the importance of acknowledging the valuable contribution of our
volunteers and does so within the constraints of the DANA Constitution.
Expenses
DANA will reimburse reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred whilst undertaking
voluntary tasks, subject to the production of receipts but only with the prior approval of
the anticipated expenditure by the Management Committee.
Recruitment
 Volunteers will be recruited to participate in DANA projects according to the
relevance of their experience to the project.
 It is desirable, but not mandatory, that they can demonstrate some aspects of
relevant experience to the project.
 Volunteers participating in any given project will be provided with an information
pack or role description.
 Volunteers will be recruited through DANA networks.
 Selection criteria will be developed for each project and used in the recruitment
and selection process.
Review, Evaluation and Dissemination
This policy will be reviewed by the Management committee every two years
Evaluation shall occur through applicant feedback, both formal and informal.
The policy guidelines will be available on the DANA website, in DANA newsletters and
hard copies available on request from the DANA Secretary.
