Action: Abducts the shoulder
Origin: clavicle and scapula
Insertion: deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Brachioradialis:
Action: flexion at the elbow
Origin: lateral epicondyle of the humerus
Insertion: styloid process of radius
Extensor carpi
radialis
(longus/brevis):
Action: extension and abduction at wrist
Origin: distal lateral surface and lateral epicondyle of humerus
Insertion: bases of second and third metacarpals
Flexor digitorum
profundus:
(superficialis)
Action: flexion at the finger joints and wrist
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus, anterior surface of the radius and ulna, medial
and posterior surface of ulna
Insertion: distal phalanges
Pronator teres:
Action: pronation
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus and coronoid process of ulna
Insertion: distal lateral surface of the radius
Flexor carpi radialis:
Action: flexion and abduction at wrist
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus
Insertion: bases of second and third metacarpals
Palmarus longus:
Action: flexion at wrist
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus
Insertion: tendinous sheet on the palm (aponeurosis)
Flexor carpi ulnaris:
Action: flexion and adduction at the wrist
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus
Insertion: pisiform, hamate and base of fifth metacarpal
Epitrochlearis:
Action: extends the forelimb
Origin: latissimus dorsi
Insertion: ulna
Triceps brachii:
• Long Head
Action: extension at the elbow
Origin: superior, posterior and lateral margins of the humerus and scapula
Insertion: olecranon process of ulna
