Document 2 - DRAFT CONSTITUENT LETTER TO MLA - AB Your Name & Address Date Your MLA’s Name & Address Dear (fill in their surname of MLA - i.e. Dear Mr. Jones), I am writing as a constituent of yours and as someone touched by pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a rare but very complex and serious lung disease, which is progressive and fatal. I would like to meet with you to discuss PAH and more specifically, the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) Therapeutic Review Recommendation Report of Drugs for PAH and the Opsumit (macitentan) Common Drug Review (CDR) recommendation. INSERT A BRIEF PARAGRAPH OUTLINING YOUR PERSONAL STORY AND THE LINK YOU HAVE TO A PERSON WITH PAH. It is estimated that more than 5,000 Canadians have been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension (PH), but as many as 10,000 may be affected by the condition. Patients with PAH, the most severe form of PH, live an average of two to three years if left untreated, requiring specialized PAH physicians to have the discretion to prescribe the treatments they believe will result in optimal outcomes. The recently released CADTH Report seeks to severely restrict physicians’ ability at diagnosis to exercise the individual clinical judgement essential to the proper treatment of PAH. I do not believe that Alberta should implement this recommendation, but rather that all Health Canada-approved PAH therapies should be accessible to PAH patients at diagnosis and beyond. I am asking for the opportunity to meet with you for 30 minutes to discuss PAH and the need to ensure access to appropriate medications to manage this life-threatening disease. I will follow up with your office soon to schedule a mutually convenient time to meet. Thank you for your consideration and your ongoing commitment to people living with PAH, their families and loved ones. Sincerely, Your Name
