Welcome to Student Health Services at
Illinois State University!
We are here for one purpose: to provide the best health care, preventive and insurance services to Illinois State students. We are a
full-service medical facility, similar to any family practice clinic. We want to help students value their health and become effective
consumers of health services for the rest of their lives. Please don’t hesitate to let us know how we can help you!
Laura Knoblauch
Director, Student Health Services
Executive Summary
Student Health Services offered a wide variety of medical

98.6% of students said they would recommend using Student

Student Health Services is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care
(AAAHC), and offers the students at Illinois State University an outpatient clinic similar to a primary care
clinic a student may find at home. Some of the services include medical, sexual health, preventive medicine,
psychiatry, radiology, laboratory, and dietetics.
Additionally, we offer a full-service on-site pharmacy with over-the-counter medications available at a
reduced cost, and the opportunity for students to transfer prescriptions from their home provider. Most
students utilize the Student Health Insurance as a secondary option to their family primary insurer.
Student Health Services at Illinois State is an
active member of the following professional
organizations:
• American College Health Association
• Mid-American College Health
Association
• Illinois Consortium of Student Health
Programs.
Student Health Insurance
The Student Health Insurance at Illinois State University is rated a “Platinum” plan under
the Affordable Care Act. We serve many students at Illinois State, and continue to provide
the most cost-effective and comprehensive coverage for students.
We renewed our contract with Aetna Student Health, for the
2015-2016 school year. We provide a very affordable and
comprehensive plan. The rates for the 15-16 school year are $249
for the fall and spring, and $187 for the summer.
Accomplishments
Student Health Services had many
accomplishments during the 2014-2015 school

• A full 3 year accreditation from the Accreditation
Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). This is
the ninth consecutive full accreditation for SHS.
• Hired another full-time Psychiatrist to provide services to
students.
• SHS has a Registered Dietitian who specializes in weight
management and is a member of the Eating
Disorder Network here at Illinois State.

internal medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics and
gynecology.

(SMART) clinic to provide care for ISU students in the area of prevention, evaluation, and
rehabilitation of various orthopedic injuries.
Student Health Services continues to collaborate with the English Language Institute (ELI)
and the International Studies department to provide assistance with immunizations and
student health insurance for individuals from other countries.
Campus Dining and Student Health Services collaborated to host “Dine with a Dietitian,”
and featured both CDS and SHS Registered Dietitians to chat with students about both of
our services.
Mennonite College of Nursing assisted SHS with TB testing, flu shots, and clinical
rotations. SHS clinicians proctored MCN Advanced Practice Nursing students performing

What ISU students are saying about
Student Health Services....
“Thank you for being so caring and understanding. I
was worried about going in for testing, and you made
me feel 100% at east. I’m really glad we have someone
as awesome as you working at ISU “ –Student
“This provider explained everything much more
thoroughly than other healthcare providers have in the
past. I appreciate her not trying to “dumb things down”
for me. It was really nice.” – Student
“The doctor was very helpful, kind, and informative! She
made my visit a breeze.” – Student
“I have been a patient of this provider for many years,
and I have always enjoyed having her as a physician.
She remembers events in my life, and is very kind and
helpful.” – Student
“Thank you for what you do! I have a huge phobia and
sensory problems due to a medical condition. I’ve had bad
experiences with mean nurses who tell me “it’s stupid”
to be upset but you didn’t. You all understand and help
me to make it easier. Thanks for being patient and understanding. Having this condition can be hard; things don’t
come easy but thanks for helping.” – Student
“Very helpful and friendly; made me feel like I could ask
questions and explained my options well.” – Student
“The Registered Dietitian is awesome! She
is very personable and understanding; great
motivator.” – Student
