Partners for Student Success Honors Algebra II Unit 3: Trigonometry/ Sequences and Series In order for your child to be successful, it is important to be consistent with the mathematical vocabulary and processes that will be implemented this year in Algebra 2. You may find this resource helpful when supporting your child at home. Unit Concepts Concept Explanation Sequence An ordered list of numbers; the numbers in this ordered list are called "elements" or "terms". Series The value you get when you add up all the terms of a sequence; this value is called the "sum". Arithmetic Sequence Geometric Sequence Recursive Rule Examples An arithmetic sequence goes from one term to the next by always adding (or subtracting) the same value. A geometric sequence goes from one term to the next by always multiplying (or dividing) by the same value. A recursive rule gives you the beginning term or terms of a sequences and then tells how an is related to one or more preceding terms. Cecil County Public Schools 2014-15 1 Honors Algebra II Unit 3 Partners for Student Success Trigonometric Ratio The ratio of the lengths of two sides in a right triangle. Sine Ratio The ratio of the lengths of the side opposite of an acute angle and the hypotenuse in a right triangle. Cosine Ratio The ratio of the lengths of the side adjacent to an acute angle and the hypotenuse in a right triangle. Tangent Ratio The ratio of the lengths of the legs in a right triangle. Trigonometric Identity A trigonometric equation that is true for all values of 𝜃(in its domain) is called a trigonometric identity. Radian Measure The measure of an angle in standard position whose terminal side intercepts an arc of length r.
