AP Human Geography Summer Assignment 2017-2018
Goal:
1. To identify and label important locations and physical features throughout the world in order
to make pertinent spatial location connections.
2. To understand basic concepts of AP Human Geography.
Materials: You will need a pencil or pen, and colored pencils to assist in labeling and coloring
the given features.
Directions:
1. Using the list provided identify and label all physical features on the physical maps and all
locations (countries and cities) on the political maps. Additionally, create a map key that shows
a symbol of your choice for the following items: capitals, cities, oceans, rivers, mountain ranges,
and deserts. Use color to differentiate bodies of water (oceans, rivers & lakes, etc), mountain
ranges, deserts, etc. Please carefully select the colors you use to reflect the natural landscape.
Draw all features to scale.
2. On note cards, please number and write the definitions of the ch 1 vocabulary. The
vocabulary word on the front and definition on the back. Please use Mrs. Stalker’s Quizlet
https://quizlet.com/class/1144610/
Assignment Value: The maps are worth a 5 homework grades & the vocabulary is also worth
5 homework grades. Late work will be accepted; however, my late work policy is that all late
work receives half credit.
Due Date: Maps are due, completed, on the first day of class. See late work policy above.
Particulars:
I would suggest making some copies of your maps in case of a major goof-up (however, whiteout can be your friend as long as it’s not used extensively!). The paper size I used is size 8½ X
11. If it’s not big enough, feel free to make larger copies of your maps somewhere like FedEx or
Kinkos.
-In order to accurately label all of the included locations and features, I would recommend
purchasing Rand Mcnally Notebook World Atlas from Barnes and Noble (or somewhere
similar) to assist in your summer venture and throughout the year. The internet is also a reliable
source for locations (however, it’s not transportable to the beach).
All notecards must me handwritten.
- Be mindful that this assignment was not meant to be completed in a day (or at 2
AM the day before school starts). You should work progressively on this throughout the
summer.
-Don’t worry about studying these maps this summer. You will be tested on these locations
throughout the year through announced quizzes.
-Take this seriously, and look on the bright side, you can take pride in the fact that you are no
longer on the geographically deficient dark side. ☺
