Position Announcement Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Consumer Science University of Wisconsin – Madison Multiple positions (2) Deadline: December 6, 2015 or until filled Type: Tenure track or tenured Title: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor Salary: Commensurate with experience Positions: 2 The Department of Consumer Science, University of Wisconsin – Madison is recruiting 2 new tenure-‐track or tenured faculty members (rank open). We seek scholars in the broad area of family and consumer economic wellbeing, with particular interest in such areas as consumer finance, consumer policy, financial behavior and decisionmaking, resource management, etc. Collectively these positions will provide leadership and support to our newly restructured Consumer Finance and Financial Planning programs, with one position serving as Faculty Director. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining a strong research program, competing for extramural funding, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring graduate students, and service in faculty governance roles. Both positions have a four course annual teaching load. Across the positions we are looking to cover technical courses such as Introduction to Consumer Finance, Risk and Insurance, Retirement and Benefits, Advanced Consumer Finance, Financial Planning, and Estate Planning, as well as broader consumer and finance courses such as Financial Assets and Capability, Consumer Policy, Applied Economics, Financial Services Innovation, and Retail Financial Services. Qualifications: An earned doctoral degree in a relevant social science field, including but not limited to Consumer Finance, Personal Finance, Consumer Economics, Public Policy, Social Work, Sociology, Business, or Economics. Specialization in an area related to family economic wellbeing, consumer issues/policy, consumer finance, or household resource management. Candidates must have ability to secure extramural funding and a record of publications in peer-‐ reviewed journals commensurate with rank. For Associate/Full Professor, must have outstanding research and publication record to meet standards of UW-‐ Madison Social Science Divisional Committee for tenure. For one position, Certified Financial Planner designation preferred but not required. About our department: Consumer Science is an interdisciplinary department in the vibrant and growing School of Human Ecology. We focus on the ways in which interactions among consumers, business, and government can enhance the interests and wellbeing of consumers, families, and communities. Faculty degrees are in diverse fields including Economics, Marketing, Social Welfare, Public Policy, and Consumer Behavior. Department faculty have a wide range of affiliations on campus spanning the Center for Financial Security; Kohl’s Center for Retailing Excellence; the Institute for Research on Poverty; the School of Business; the Center for Demography and Ecology; the LaFollette School of Public Affairs; and many more. About our programs: The Consumer Science Department provides undergraduate and graduate education. We offer two undergraduate majors: Personal Finance (with tracks in Consumer Finance and Financial Planning) and Retailing. The Financial Planning track is registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, and qualifies students to sit for the Certified Financial Planner Exam. The new Consumer Finance track focuses on the interface between family financial behavior, financial services and technology, and the broader policy context; it prepares students to work at multiple levels to enhance financial and family wellbeing among economically vulnerable households. We also offer graduate degrees in Family Economics and Consumer Behavior. The department is affiliated with the Center for Financial Security, which supports a wide range of applied research around economic wellbeing.
