Igneous rock 2. Sedimentary rock 3. Metamorphic rock 1. Igneous rocks it is liquid rock cools and becomes hard. Examples a. granite b. basalt 2. Sedimentary rocks made from material that sinks to the bottom of a liquid, made from sediment. Examples a. sandstone b. limestone 3. Metamorphic rocks mean changed. Examples a. marble b. slate Rock Type Igneous Properties Usually hard and dark Has shiny crystals Usually soft. May be layered Sedimentary Often pale and dull Usually no crystals Hard Note: This material is only a summary of chapters for revision. Student must study from the given syllabus also. وهي فقط أمثلة توضيحية لبعض صياغات األسئلة الواردة عن بعض الموضوعات الرئيسية في المنهج وارشادات عن كيفية، المعلومات الواردة في هذه الوثيقة ال تحدد ما سيتم تناوله في االختبار بعينه:مالحظة .التعامل معها فيجب على الطالب الدراسة من المقرر المرفق Metamorphic Maybe light or dark Maybe layered or show bands of colour Has shiny crystals Lesson: Minerals and Their Properties Mineral is a non-living substance. Some minerals are large crystals with regular shapes. Minerals are broken into small grains. Sand is made from grains of quartz. Grain is a tiny particle. Uses of Minerals a. builds our homes e. paint b. builds our vehicles f. toothpaste c. builds our cities and roads g. decorates our bodies d. fertilizes fields face cream Lesson: Using Minerals We are surrounded by minerals in the rocks of the Earth’s crust. Minerals are taken from the ground at quarries, mines and oil wells. Minerals are processed with heat, gases or electricity to give them properties we need. Mineral Resources Products a. bauxite aluminum b. limestone cement c. sand d. petroleum glass fuel e. clay pottery f. gypsum toothpaste Note: This material is only a summary of chapters for revision. Student must study from the given syllabus also. وهي فقط أمثلة توضيحية لبعض صياغات األسئلة الواردة عن بعض الموضوعات الرئيسية في المنهج وارشادات عن كيفية، المعلومات الواردة في هذه الوثيقة ال تحدد ما سيتم تناوله في االختبار بعينه:مالحظة .التعامل معها فيجب على الطالب الدراسة من المقرر المرفق Lesson: Weathering Erosion We need soil to grow crops. Soil Erosion is a naturally occurring process on all land. Particles of rock on a hillside made to prevent erosion. Erosion occurs when the rock particles produced by weathering. Water freezing in cracks in the rock expands and splits the rock into pieces. Wind and water carry rock particles that weather the rock they strike. Plants roots growing in cracks break the rock into smaller pieces. Heating and Cooling make rocks expand and contract this makes them crack and crumble. Animals hooves weather the rock on which they walk. Lesson: Oceans, seas, rivers and lakes River is a large natural stream of flowing water. Lake is a large body of water surrounded by land or salt water. Sea is a branch of the ocean, not completely surrounded by land. Ocean is one of the large areas of salt water that covers most of the Earth. Seas are branches of the ocean. Five Great Oceans a. Pacific Ocean b. Atlantic Ocean c. Indian Ocean d. Southern Ocean e. Arctic Ocean Lesson: Under the Surface This cross-section shows the ocean bottom. It is no flat. Under the water there are mountains, canyons, valleys, plains, volcanoes and ridges. Changes with depth a. Light b. Temperature c. Pressure Note: This material is only a summary of chapters for revision. Student must study from the given syllabus also. وهي فقط أمثلة توضيحية لبعض صياغات األسئلة الواردة عن بعض الموضوعات الرئيسية في المنهج وارشادات عن كيفية، المعلومات الواردة في هذه الوثيقة ال تحدد ما سيتم تناوله في االختبار بعينه:مالحظة .التعامل معها فيجب على الطالب الدراسة من المقرر المرفق Plants must have sunlight to make their food by photosynthesis. Zooplankton is a microscopic animal that feed at the ocean surface. Phytoplankton is a microscopic plant that float in the surface waters. Bioluminescent is a living thing that is a light source. Lesson: Waves and Tides Internal zone is the environment low and high tides on the seashore. Tide is a twice a day rise and fall of the ocean caused by the force of gravity from the moon and sun. The causes of tide are the force of gravity from the moon stretches the oceans, making them bulge on either side of the Earth. The tides have an important effect on wildlife. The intertidal zone is the area on the shore between low-water and high-water. A giant ocean wave created by an earthquake called tsunami. The force of the wind makes waves. Great Waves a. Hurricane force winds make waves higher than houses, but this waves are smaller than tsunami. b. Tsunami is a giant wave caused by an earthquake under the ocean. It can be 30 metres high. When reaches the shore, it washes away people and animals and destroys houses. Lesson: Pollution at Sea Pollution spoils the environment, harms wildlife and can spread disease. Causes of Pollution 1. Poisonous Chemicals – concentrate in fish and harm people 2. Plastic bags – chokes a turtle 3. Oil Slick – sticks to birds’ feathers 4. Sewage – spreads cholera Lesson: Energy Energy makes things happen. Energy is the ability to do work. Note: This material is only a summary of chapters for revision. Student must study from the given syllabus also. وهي فقط أمثلة توضيحية لبعض صياغات األسئلة الواردة عن بعض الموضوعات الرئيسية في المنهج وارشادات عن كيفية، المعلومات الواردة في هذه الوثيقة ال تحدد ما سيتم تناوله في االختبار بعينه:مالحظة .التعامل معها فيجب على الطالب الدراسة من المقرر المرفق Forms of Energy Energy Sources a. electricity a. fuel b. light b. electricity c. movement c. the sun d. sound d. wind and wave e. heat e. food f. elastic Heat and light from the sun supply the energy for life on Earth. When we use energy, we transform energy from an energy source into kind of energy we need. We use different machines and devices to do this. Solar Energy is the energy from the sun. Two main forms of Solar Energy a. light energy b. heat energy Lesson: Sounds Our world is full of sounds. Sound is a kind of energy that travels into our ears as waves. Sounds are made when something vibrates. Vibration is rapid to-and-fro movement. Whenever something vibrates, it produces sounds, sounds are made by vibrating objects Sounds travel through the air to our ears. Sound wave is the up and down changes in pressure travel through the air. A sound can be loud or soft. A soft sound is quiet and made bay small vibration. A large vibration makes a loud sound. Lesson: Solar System The sun is a star, a huge ball of burning gas. Eight planets and sun make up the solar system. Note: This material is only a summary of chapters for revision. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and the smallest planet. 2. Venus is about the same size as Earth. It covered with a thick atmosphere of hot poisonous gas. 3. Earth is our home planet, the third planet from the sun. 4. Mars also called as red planet, it is smaller and colder than the Earth. 5.Jupiter is the biggest planet in the solar system with a giant red spot. 6. Saturn is the second biggest planet, surrounded by beautiful rings. 7. Uranus are giant blue-green gas balls. 8. Neptune The Solar System Asteroids are huge lamps of rock in space. Comet is a ball of ice and dust that travels in a long narrow orbit around the sun. Meteoroids are countless smaller pieces of dust, rock and metal between the planets. Meteor is a meteoroid burning up, also called shooting star. Note: This material is only a summary of chapters for revision.
