Vehicular Computing Mobile and AdHoc Networking Protocol Engineering and IP Networking Software Quality Assurance and Engineering Software Design and Testing Doctoral thesis : COMPUTER SCIENCE, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore Completed : JUNE 2004 Title : DELIVERING QUALITY OF SERVICES FOR MEDIA STREAMING OVER IP NETWORKS Abstract : An analysis of QoS factors in multimedia protocols such as RTP (Real Time Protocol), RTCP (Real Time Control Protocol), RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) and MGCP (Media Gateway Control Protocol), has been identified that importance have not been provided to latency effects, throughput and fault tolerance issues. Real time media streaming applications such as Media Conferencing, Video On Demand, Audio Play-out on Demand, require high QoS factors. Multimedia protocols lack in adequate support for guarantee of performance measures of QoS metrics and to manage complex components involved in runtime for serving audio / video transfer over distributed networks. This thesis aims to provide an effective and optimal QoS solution for media streaming applications on IP network. The resultant network parameters such as number of packets lost, play-out delay and noise, determines the quality of service (QoS) of media stream at play-out. These factors, which tamper the quality of streaming media leads to reduced throughput and increase in latency effect and reduced MOS (Mean Opinion Score) value. Post – Doctoral Work : DEVELOPMENT OF ADAPTIVE QoS FOR MOBILITY AND CONTEXT AWARE ADHOC NETWORKS Abstract : This research work concentrates on providing an optimimal QoS media services over AdHoc devices. This work discusses on methods to organize and manage network mutltiple media-communication resources (mobile GRPS devices, pagers, mobile net, PDAs and fixed location based networks ) effectively, as well it also focuses on maintaining the network quality of services (QoS ) for media transfer, and fault management techniques using media gatekeeper as an interface.
