Environmental Conditions for the Opera Flexicom
The control unit is comprised of three printed circuit boards (PCBs) housed in a
3-part plastic enclosure. The enclosure consists of an access cover, a top cover and a
base. Six slots in the top cover allow line, extension and applications modules to be
added.
The access cover encloses the connection area on which the wiring is terminated.

Installing and positioning the Opera Flexicom Control
Unit
Select a location which is:








2
Approximately one metre from the ground for ease of installation
Easily accessible and well-lit to enable the wiring of the system
Isolated from plumbing and electrical wiring
Spacious enough to allow 300mm clearance around the system
Not exposed to electromagnetic radiation e.g. lift machinery, arc welders etc.
Within 2 metres of a dedicated electrical power point
Within convenient reach of the NTU (ISDN line socket) or incoming PSTN
wiring
Not exposed to extremes of temperature, humidity, dust, damp or direct
sunlight.
Installing and positioning the Battery Back-Up module
Select a location which is:












Not exposed to extremes of temperature, humidity, dust, damp or direct
sunlight.
Spacious enough to allow 150mm clearance around the casing
Within 2 metres of the Opera Flexicom
Observe anti-static precautions
Power down the system
Remove the control unit main cover
Mount the daughter card on the 4 mounting pillars above the power supply
ensuring that the pins of the 12 way connector line up
If required, wall-mount the external battery enclosure using the template
supplied
Terminate the interconnecting cable (system end first)
Replace covers
Power up the system
Check operation with and without mains power.
The battery will last up to one hour depending on traffic
When adding or removing the encapsulated cards (e.g. line/extension) to the Opera
Flexicom, the system MUST be powered down. If a battery back up module is
connected to the system this too MUST be disconnected.

Port Properties
When wiring extensions with 0.5mm copper conductor cable the following limits
should be adhered to:
100 ohms or 600m for Operafone Executive and single line display feature sets
504 ohms or 3 km for standard analogue two-wire sets
1,200 ohms or 7 km for analogue extensions programmed to be long-line extensions
Note: Any external wiring should have supplementary protection where deemed
appropriate. This can be provided using, for example, the following items
 100000177 Oneac Kit
 6089-1-810-00 Strip Connection 237A
 6526-1-022-00 Krone Connection Box 50A
Additional line protectors and appropriate strips may be needed depending on
the size of the installation
2 x Relays, normally open contacts, max. Current 1 Amp
Music on Hold, external source
Phono socket input impedance 600 Ohms
Max input voltage 4 volts pk-pk
Paging
Phono socket input impedance 600 Ohms
Max output voltage 4 volts pk-pk
The Opera Flexicom is supplied with a protective earth connected.
No additional external earth connection is necessary.
There is a "Protective Bonding Conductor" (Earth Strap) internally in the system.
At one end, it connects to the terminal on the MDF, which is labelled “PE”, and at the
other end, it is connected to the third (Earth) terminal of the Mains connector in the
PSU. It is a length of Green-and-Yellow insulated wire of the same thickness and
type as the Earth wire in the three-core mains cable (to which it connects at the mains
terminal).
