Richland High School Lesson Plan Template S/Y 2014-2015
Teacher(s): Lisa Shields, Hannah Loper, Jimmy Tullos
Subject/Grade Level: Geometry/ 9th – 12th
Unit Title: Congruent Triangles
Date(s) of Implementation: 1-05-15 thru 1-23-15
Common Core/Mississippi Framework Objectives (List all that apply)
G.SRT.5 Fluency with the triangle congruence and similarity criteria will help students throughout their investigations of triangles,
quadrilaterals, circles, parallelism, and trigonometric ratios. These criteria are necessary tools in many geometric modeling tasks.
G.CO.9 Prove theorems about lines and angles.
G.CO.10 Prove theorems about triangles.
G.CO.12 Make formal geometric constructions with a variety of tools and methods (compass and straightedge, string, reflective devices,
paper folding, dynamic geometric software, etc.).
G.CO.13 Construct an equilateral triangle, a square, and a regular hexagon inscribed in a circle.
G.CA.3 Construct the inscribed and circumscribed circles of a triangle, and prove properties of angles for a quadrilateral inscribed in a
circle.
MP 1: Make Sense of Problems and Persevere in Solving Them
MP 2: Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
MP 3: Construct Viable Arguments and Critique the Reasoning of Others
MP 4: Model with Mathematics
MP 5: Use appropriate tools strategically.
MP 6: Attend to precision.
MP 7: Look for and Make Use of Structure
MP 8: Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
I Can Statements…..
I can use the midsegment of a triangle to uncover relationships
within a triangle.
I can recognize that triangles play a key role in relationships
involving perpendicular bisectors and angle bisectors.
I can use special parts of a triangle that are always concurrent.
I can use indirect reasoning
I can use the relationship of the measures of the angles of a
triangle and the lengths of the opposite sides.
I can use the relationship between the included angles and the
third pair of sides in triangles that have two pairs of congruent
sides.
Integrating the Curriculum: How do you incorporate other subjects in this unit?
Science and engineering applications - (stem problems)
Social studies - map skills
English – vocabulary and critiquing others and writing viable arguments.
Art – aerial photography
How will the lessons be connected to “real world” experiences?
Measure indirectly.
Use trail maps to find things and places of interest in the shortest route possible.
Goalie on a soccer team blocking shots or bowler getting a split shot.
How to talk on phone in loud places and still be heard.
Create new rides for amusement parks.
At the end of this Unit, students will know:
TSW use properties of midsegments to solve problems.
TSW use properties of perpendicular bisectors and angle bisectors.
TSW identify properties of perpendicular bisectors and angle
bisectors.
TSW identify properties of medians and altitudes of a triangle.
TSW use indirect reasoning to write proofs.
TSW use inequalities involving angles and sides of triangles.
TSW apply inequalities in two triangles.
Differentiation: How will the lesson be differentiated to meet the learning needs of ALL students? List those students with IEP’s, 504
rulings, and those in TIER 2 and 3, along with their accommodations/interventions:
