Skin Cancer can be prevented

• Ultraviolet (UV) light exposure
– The main cause of skin cancer
– Sunburn in childhood
• Fair skin, freckling, and light
hair
– The risk of skin cancer is much higher
for light skinned people than for those
with darker skin
• Immune Suppression
– People who have been treated with
medicines that suppress the immune
system, such as organ transplant
patients, have an increased risk of
developing skin cancer
Red flags
ABCs of detecting cancer early
A: Abnormal Lump -breast, testis; anywhere
B: Bleeding that is unusual
Coughing up blood. Blood in the bowel motion. Blood in the urine.
Vaginal bleeding after the menopause
C: Change in body functioning
Cough / hoarseness for more than 3 weeks
Difficulty swallowing
Change in bowel habit - especially loose stools for 6 weeks
S: Skin
Changing mole; a sore that is not healing
