MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Kenya Science, Technology and Innovation (KESTI) Competition - 2016
The Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MOEST) has established the Kenya Science, Technology and
Innovation (KESTI) Awards to recognize outstanding contribution of Kenyan scientists.
The awards will be in the following scientific sectors:
1 a) Earth Sciences - covering but not limited to geology, geophysics and geodesy.
1 b) Life Sciences - like plants, animals and human. This may be Agro-technology, Animal Science, Plant Science,
Biotechnology, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Medicine, and Tissue Engineering to mention a few.
2.
Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation-: consist of all other sciences, technologies and innovations
excluding those covered within Earth and Life Science category. These may include; physics, Chemistry,
Mathematics, Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, civil etc), Artificial Intelligence, Material
Sciences, manufacturing and Production Technologies, Metallurgy, Textiles, Energy and Innovations etc.
The Awards will be in the following three categories:
Category 1: Two Young Scientist Award (must be below 40 years by 31st December, 2016) each Ksh. 500,000
Category 2: Two Women Scientist Award each worth Ksh. 1,000,000
Category 3: The best Scientist Award worth Ksh. 1,500,000
The theme for this FY is: “ST&I for Sustainable National Development and Attainment of Vision 2030”
Requirements for Eligible Contestants




The competition is open to Kenyan citizens only from both the public and private sectors
Contestants to apply in person or be nominated by their organization or their fellow researchers provided that,
the supporting documents are availed.
Category 3 is open to both men and women scientists
Separate application forms are required if applying for more than one category
Those with patentable innovations are highly encouraged to apply (Inventions clearly identified as serving military
purposes are not eligible for these awards)
Eligible interested persons are advised to download the application form from the Ministry’s website:
www.scienceandtechnology.go.ke.
Duly completed forms should be sent/returned the undersigned on or before 31st March 2016 at 5:00 PM.
