1. Starch, Proteins and Fats are
insoluble.
2. They must be broken down before they
can be absorbed.
3. Enzymes speed up the break down.

1. The enzyme amylase is made in the
salivary glands, pancreas and small
intestine.
2. It catalyses the breakdown of starch
into sugars.

It catalyses the breakdown of protein
into amino acids.

catalyses the breakdown of fats into
fatty acids and glycerol.
2. The liver produces bile. Bile is stored
in the gall bladder. When released into
the small intestine it neutralises
stomach acid and emulsifies fats.
