JOB DESCRIPTION Post: Database Manager – Centre for Maternal Newborn Health (CMNH) Responsible to: Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Summary of role: To work as part of the CMNH team based at LSTM to support quantitative data management for complex and large datasets from multiple sites. This role would suit an IT-trained person with an understanding of the research environment and experience of dealing with complex datasets, preferably in a healthcare sector setting. The post will be based in Liverpool. Key Responsibilities: Design and maintain (relational) databases, including performance, integrity and security, across CMNH to support data collection, processing, storage and retrieval Maintain standard of data management, including writing database documentation, data standard and version control procedures and definitions for the data dictionary Provide guidance and recommend appropriate database solutions Contribute towards the analysis and interpretation of quantitative data Work in a safe manner adhering to local and legal requirements Other duties reasonably consistent with the foregoing as required PERSON SPECIFICATION: Database Manager – CMNH Essential / Desirable Assessment Educated to Degree Level or equivalent E University/Professional training in computer science, computer software/computer systems engineering, information technology, mathematics, operational research E Application Form Further evidence of continuous professional development in a similar environment D Demonstrable working knowledge of database management systems E Experience of handling and interrogating large datasets, ideally in a research setting E Experience in data analysis and quantitative methods E Experience of working in a research institution, technical consultancy or international development organisation in a similar role D Experience of working in low- and middle-income countries particularly Sub-Saharan Africa D MS Office applications, including Excel and Access E FileMaker D SPSS or other quantitative analysis software (e.g. SAS, STATA, R) D Familiarity with structured query language (SQL), Unix and/or database management systems (DBMS) D Knowledge of international partnerships D Knowledge of international development D Problem-solving and good analytical skills E Excellent organizational skills, with ability to work to and meet deadlines E Criteria Education & Training Experience Knowledge Skills & Abilities Competency Application Form, Assessment and Interview Assessment and Interview Application Form, Assessment and Interview Criteria Competency Essential / Desirable Attention to detail and accuracy E Excellent written and verbal communication skills E Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work both collaboratively and independently E Confidence and ability to deal with people at all levels across disciplines and cultures E Proven track record of taking responsibility and ownership for problems and following them through to resolution E General computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheets (including financial) and database packages E Approach Demonstrate a confident, enthusiastic, positive and energetic approach, with a willingness to get involved in all aspects of the project E Circumstances Post based in Liverpool Assessment Application Form and Interview
