- Levels of Ecological Organization:
Organism  Species  Population  Community  Ecosystem  Biome 
Biosphere

Trophic level (represents who’s eating who in food web or food chain)
Primary producers – plants
Primary Consumers/ Herbivores- Organisms that eat plants
Secondary Consumers – Eat primary consumers
Tertiary consumers- Eat secondary consumers
Omnivores- eat both plants & animals
Carnivores- eat only meat
Decomposers – Break down organic matter- recycle nutrients back into soil
(ex: mushrooms)
Energy/Biomass Pyramid: Which organisms would occupy each level and why?
- What’s the difference between a food web and a food chain?
- What would happen if a producer or consumer was killed off in a food web?
(Give some examples…)
- Give an example of each type of symbiotic relationship: parasitism, mutualism
and commensalism.
