COMPARE THE CELL PARTS FOUND IN PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS. PART A: CELL MEMBRANE & NUCLEUS 1. Select a prepared “Nervous Tissue” and a “Muscle Tissue” slide. 2. Observe under LOW, then HIGH Power. 3. Draw several CELLS of each tissue; LABEL the cell membrane & nucleus. PART B: CELL MEMBRANE & CYTOPLASM 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. PLACE A DROP OF METHYLENE BLUE STAIN ON A SLIDE. SCRAPE THE INSIDE OF YOUR CHEEK WITH A TOOTHPICK. MIX CHEEK CELLS INTO THE METHYLENE BLUE STAIN. ADD COVERSLIP & EXAMINE UNDER LOW, THEN HIGH POWER. DRAW SEVERAL CELLS; LABEL: CELL MEMBRANE & CYTOPLASM. PART C: CELL WALL 1. USE A RAZOR BLADE TO SLICE OFF A THIN SECTION OF CORK FROM THE SIDE. 2. PREPARE A SLIDE MOUNT. 3. EXAMINE UNDER LOW THEN HIGH POWER. 4. DRAW SEVERAL CELLS; LABEL: THE CELL WALL. PART D: NUCLEUS 1. SNAP AN ONION SCALE IN HALF AND PEEL OFF A THIN LAYER OF TISSUE. 2. PLACE ON SLIDE & ADD A DROP OF IODINE (I-KI) STAIN TO ONION. 3. ADD COVERSLIP & VIEW UNDER LOW & HIGH POWER. 4. DRAW THE CELLS; LABEL: THE NUCLEUS, CELL MEMBRANE, AND CELL WALL. PART E: CHLOROPLASTS 1. PREPARE WET MOUNT OF AN ELODEA LEAFLET. 2. VIEW UNDER LOW, THEN HIGH POWER. 3. LOCATE GREEN, OBLONG CELLS WITH SMALL GREEN ORGANELLES INSIDE OF IT. (THEY MAY BE MOVING!) 4.
