#1- There are many medications that have adverse reactions when taken with whey protein,
including several antibiotics.
#2-It is not considered safe during pregnancy or lactation (according to WebMD and others).
#3-It can increase the risk of bleeding – cause low blood pressure, interfere with the way the
body processes drugs, herbs and supplements in the liver, and…
#4-Long term use can cause kidney damage and bone loss.
“After fat and casein are removed from milk, dairy processors are left with whey protein. Whey
is composed of bovine blood proteins, serum albumen, lactalbumen, dead white blood cells
and hormonal residues including estrogen, progesterone and IGF-1 (insulin growth factor 1)”
IGF-1 and Cancer
“IGF-1 is known to stimulate the growth of both normal and cancerous cells. In 1990
researchers at Stanford University reported that IGF-1 promotes the growth of prostate cells.
This was followed by the discovery that IGF-1 accelerates the growth of breast cancer cells. In
1995 researchers at the National Institutes of Health reported that IGF-1 plays a central role in
the progression of many childhood cancers and in the growth of tumours in breast cancer,
small cell lung cancer, melanoma, and cancers of the pancreas and prostate. In September
1997 an international team of researchers reported the first epidemiological evidence that high
IGF-1 concentrations are closely linked to an increased risk of prostate cancer. Other
researchers provided evidence of IGF-1's link to breast and colon cancers.”
"Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I, a mitogenic and antiapoptotic peptide, can affect the
proliferation of breast epithelial cells, and is thought to have a role in breast cancer."
The Lancet , vol. 351. May 9, 1998
"Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), in particular IGF-I and IGF-II, strongly stimulate the
proliferation of a variety of cancer cells, including those from lung cancer. High plasma levels
of IGF-I were associated with an increased risk of lung cancer. Plasma levels of IGF-I are
higher...in patients with lung cancer than in control subjects."
Journal of the National Cancer Institute , vol. 91, no. 2. January 20, 1999.
"Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is expressed in many tumor cell lines and has a role in
both normal cell proliferation and in the growth of cancers.
Cancer Gene Ther, 2000 Mar, 7:3
"The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system is widely involved in human carcinogenesis. A
significant association between high circulating IGF-I concentrations and an increased risk of
lung, colon, prostate and pre-menopausal breast cancer has recently been reported. Lowering
plasma IGF-I may thus represent an attractive strategy to be pursued..."

Whey Protein causes acidity in the body:
“Vegetable foods are alkaline. Animal products are acidic foods that require a huge output of
hydrochloric acid from the stomach for digestion. This acid tide in the blood after a high-protein
meal requires an equally strong basic response by the body to neutralize the acid. The dietaryderived acid load from high-protein animal foods must be buffered, and to do that your bones
dissolve and release phosphates and calcium. The alkaline phosphate then buffers the acid.
This is a primary step in bone loss that leads to osteoporosis. High salt intake also contributes
to flushing your bone mass down the toilet bowl. Excessive stimulation of bone turnover also
causes an increase in bone breakdown and remodeling, which can lead to osteoarthritis and
calcium deposits in other tissues. The presence of this bone material in the urinary tract also
lays the foundation for calcium-based kidney stones.”

Whey Protein and Bone Loss
A study comparing bone loss in the lumbar spine in perimenopausal women showed that the
control group who supplemented the diet with whey protein, significant bone loss occurred.
The researchers at Iowa State University concluded the regular consumption of milk proteins
such as whey could increase the lifetime risk of osteoporosis. Am. J Clin. Nutr. 2000; 72:84452

And there is Sucralose (chlorinated sugar) in many Whey Shakes and supplement products
Sucralose is a chlorinated disaccharide (chemical structure close to DDT)
▫ One of the Reported side effects of sucralose, interestingly enough, is weight gain.
And…Sucralose has never been proven safe for human consumption.
▫ EAS contains artificial flavors and added salt – all in all it is not food, it’s chemicals.
▫ I am surprised that it has 0 fiber and 150 calories. Also, it is a myth that we need that
much protein. Exercise Sport Science Review states that the amount of protein needed
to stimulate muscle recovery is surprisingly small, only 5 - 10 Gram of protein - So, 26
Grams of protein is an unnecessary excess load on our kidneys and the rest of our
body. “Ingesting more protein than your body needs is not a small matter. It ages you
prematurely and can cause significant harm. The excess protein you do not use is not
stored by your body as protein; it is converted to fat or eliminated via the kidneys.
Eliminating excess nitrogen via your urine leaches calcium and other minerals from your
bones and breeds kidney stones.”
▫
▫ When you look at Juice Plus – you clearly see that it is a balanced
protein/fiber/fats/carbs and only 110 calories, no artificial colors, sweeteners, flavors –
no chemicals. Just food! It is NSF Certified for Safety, Quality and Sport… And, it is a
true meal with great plant protein and many different plants for overall improved nutrition
and healing – not just a way to get additional protein in the body.
▫
“The bottom line is that Exercise—not merely extra protein—builds strength, denser bones,
and bigger muscles. When you artificially stimulate growth through overfeeding and
excessive animal product consumption, you may achieve a heightened body mass index
unobtainable by other means, but you will add fat to your body as well. Let me remind you that
higher body mass index, even if that additional body mass is a mixture of extra muscle and
fat, is a strong indicator of premature death.”
I hope this is helpful to you. We really need to get the word out there. The dairy industry has
done a GREAT job in marketing so they can get rid of, and make money from this by-product.
So many people are taking whey and thinking it is helping them instead of realizing it is doing
long term damage.
