1. Air masses are large bodies of air. An
air mass forms when air over a large region of
Earth sits in one place for many days. The air gradually takes on the characteristics of the
land or water below. In the chart, record whether each air mass forms over land or water and
whether each air mass forms near to or far from the equator.
