Deep inside the Earth extreme heat in the mantle melts minerals and rock into
magma.
When magma is pushed out on top of Earth’s crust it is called lava. Some
igneous rocks are made from magma that is pushed into the crust, but trapped
underground. Many igneous rocks are formed after lava from a volcano cools
and hardens.
