Introduction into key Concepts of
Relational DataBase Management Systems (RDBMS)
- Summer Term 2011 Course Description
Objective:
If you are interested to learn about the fundamentals of information management and the most
exciting aspects of modern relational database technology, this course is for you. It delivers the
core information you need and will get you well prepared not only for any subsequent more
advanced course in relational database systems and computer science, but also for your future job
assignments in any Industry.
Content:
The content of the course is outlined in the table below: after an overview on the key RDBMS
concepts and key aspects of IBM’s DB2 system, we will focus on important database
administration topics, the basic principles of SQL programming, and fundamentals on application
programming. An excursion into interesting database performance aspects (for instance
concurrency and isolation levels) with industry examples will complete the scope. Throughout
these RDBMS lectures, we will confirm your knowledge with interesting exercises.
