Teacher: Mr. Ives
LESSON ELEMENT: Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles
Common Core Learning Standards Addressed:
Grade: 10-11
Day: 2
Rocinante High School
STUDENT-FRIENDLY TRANSLATION
G-CO.06
G-CO.07 (Use the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions to show
That two triangles are congruent if and only if corresponding pairs of sides and
Corresponding pairs of angles are congruent.)
G-CO.08 (Explain how the criteria for triangle congruence (ASA, SAS, and SSS)
Follow from the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions.)
G-SRT.05
Learning Goals and Objectives: (What will students know & be able
to do as a result of this lesson?)
The student will be able to correctly name corresponding parts of
congruent triangles and design congruent figures given corresponding
parts.
I can label congruent figures
correctly.
Vocabulary Support: (What vocabulary will student need for this
lesson?)
Rigid transformations, tessellation, semi-regular tessellation,
congruent triangles, correspondence, included angle, included side,
midpoint, vertical angles, alternate interior angles, transversals,
postulates, and Pythagorean Theorem. Also included are and the
combinations of three pairs of congruent parts, SSS, AAA, SAS, SSA,
ASA, and SAA, along with Hypotenuse-Leg Conjecture (HL).
I understand the vocabulary
of Triangles.
Formative Assessment Criteria for Success: (What does success on
this lesson’s outcomes look like?)
The student will complete the assignment with a rubric of 7 or
higher.
All notes and diagrams will be complete in their data folder.
I will
Activities/Tasks: (What learning experiences will students engage in?)
Focus activity: Which is better, logic or emotion?
Video of appropriate science and technology (time permitting)
Presentation of CPCT
Guided practice of CPCT
Independent practice of CPCT
In class formative assessment (time permitting)
Vocabulary graphic organizer (if needed)
Student reflection on learning.
Resources/Materials: (What texts, digital resources, & materials will be used in this lesson?)

OR create your own question and respond to it after you have taught the lesson.
1. How did this lesson support 21st Century Skills?
2. How did this lesson reflect academic rigor?
3. How did this lesson cognitively engage students?
4. How did this lesson engage students in cooperative learning and cooperative learning skills?
5. How effective was the work in this lesson?
Common Core Aligned Lesson:
Reflection
+ This is not a very difficult lesson and can be done quickly if there is testing.
- This can be difficult for students with limited abstract ability. It is important to make sure they understand that
rotations and reflections of figures change the orientation of the figure.
