Healthy and shining abundance of hair complements to one’s beauty. By a perfect hair style
that suits your face and figure you can make your own style statement. But you can
experiment with your looks and appearance only if you have healthy hair.
Hair covering most of our body and 25% of our head is made up of keratin. It contains no
nerves or blood vessels but embedded in the living skin from where it draws nutrition that
contributes to hair lustre and colour. The life span of a hair is 3 to 7 years. Those who are
scared to find a couple of hairs daily on their comb don’t worry its normal to lose about 100
hairs everyday.
Some facts of hair health and beauty
Combing is less damaging than brushing
Good shampoo does not de-moisture your hair
Humidity increases hair length
Washing only cleanse your hair, not the cause of your hair loss
In summer hair grows faster than winter
Cutting hair has no effect on hair growth
Split ends has to be cut
Rubbing or combing wet hairs increases hair loss
Causes of hair loss
Hair loss is a common problem both among men and women. There are different reasons for
hair loss listed below.
After illness or major surgery
Excessive tension and stress
Hormonal problems, especially thyroid disease
If male(androgen) or female (oestrogen) hormone is out of balance
Post pregnancy in women
Side effects of certain medicines
Fungal infection of the scalp
Lupus or diabetes can also cause hair loss
Improper care of hair
Hot oil or chemical treatment for perming or hair colouring
Use of tight rollers or electric hair drier
Tips for enriching hair health and beauty
Wash your hair with clean water after swimming in chlorine water or sea water
Regularly wash your hair for de-greasing
Use shampoo that suits your hair type
After shampoo, hair should be thoroughly rinsed because leftover shampoo reduces hair
gloss
Brush or comb hair after it dries completely
Wet hair should not be rubbed but wrapped around the head tightly with a towel
Carefully untangle your hair by combing starting from the tips and moving toward the roots
Combs are better than brushes
Use combs made from bones to avoid electrical charging
Use combs with blunt edge as sharp edges harm the hair roots
