Trial Big Data Technology
From April 2016, Mizuho Bank, Ltd. (President & CEO: Nobuhide Hayashi), Intage Inc. (President
& Representative Director: Noriaki Ishizuka), NHN Techorus Corp. (President: Ken Inazumi), and
Datasection Inc. (President & CEO: Hirofumi Sawa) began jointly trialing big data technology as a
further development of the Data Exchange Consortium (DXC) 1 in order to make new
customer-focused information and services available.
Recently, the Japanese government has been promoting creation of new business as well as
improvement and optimization of corporate and government operations through use of big data
technology.2 In the private sector, as well, the trend toward use of big data has been marked. Since
its establishment in April 2014, DXC has been conducting awareness-raising activities aimed at
contributing to the development of a healthy society through facilitation of open data and corporate
data sharing. DXC's FY2015 activities included public-private research as part of the Ministry of
Economy, Trade, and Industry's efforts to support venture capitalization in relation to cutting-edge
technology (data usage enhancement support project)3.
The current trials are being conducted based on the development of joint activities conducted by the
above-mentioned four companies through DXC in FY2015. Each company brings to the table
different areas of expertise: Intage, with its research and data analysis capabilities; NHN Techorus,
with its geographically-targeted automated advertising platform and information delivery expertise;
1: A consortium created for the purpose of creating guidelines, establishing an appropriate conducive environment, and
sharing the necessary knowledge to accomplish data exchange between companies and organizations. DXC is directed
by the Data Exchange Consortium Limited Liability Partnership.

3: An initiative aimed at encouraging data-driven innovation by venture firms and the strengthening of Japanese
industries through the establishment of a supportive environment, which includes efforts such as matching of venture
and data management companies and technical support for venture firms.
Datasection, with its social media-focused data analysis technology; and Mizuho Bank, with our
financial services know-how. To begin with, the trial is exploring methods of utilizing big data
garnered from sources such as social media to offer Mizuho customers relevant information with
optimal timing.
Mizuho is using this trial as an opportunity to accelerate its research into the provision of financial
services based on the safe and secure usage of such data.
Intage utilizes data from internal and external sources to provide information useful in making
management and marketing decisions, and in recent years has been driving progress in the
development and sale of services related to digital marketing. As a participant in the current trial,
Intage is focusing on the success of financial institutions and on enriching the lives of their
customers (consumers).
NHN Techorus is concentrating on using the latest advertising technology in GPS-targeted
advertisement delivery systems and developing related research and services. The company is using
the current trial to explore the possible applications of various such delivery systems in the field of
financial services. NHN Techorus plans to continue contributing to the development of Japan's
financial service market by coordinating with the other participating companies of DXC to offer
fresh solutions to financial institutions.
Applying its accumulated expertise in social media analysis, as well as the research findings
gleaned from its cutting-edge "Deep Learning" 4 technology, Datasection is pursuing the
development of new financial services.
4: A method of machine learning conducted using computers. The breadth of its applicability in the fields of visual,
audio, and series data analysis is rapidly increasing.
