Human Systems UNIT A : Key Concepts Biosphere Equilibrium Trophic levels Food chains, food webs and ecological pyramids Carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and phosphorous cycles Water properties UNIT B: Key Concepts Ecosystem Niche Biotic/abiotic characteristics Limiting factors Binomial nomenclature Adaptation and variation Population Natural selection Species Evidence for evolution UNIT C: Key Concepts Absorption of light by pigments Light dependant and independent reactions Glycolysis Krebs cycle Electron transport systems Aerobic and anaerobic respiration Muscle contraction UNIT D Key Concepts Structure and function of major systems: digestive, respiratory, circulatory excretory Chemical nature of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins Chemical and physical digestion Digestive enzymes Gas exchange Blood composition Immune response Renal function The Biology 20 course consists of a variety of assessments: quizzes, unit exams, lab work and lab skills.
