1.2 ANGLE
RELATIONSHIPS AND
SIMILAR TRIANGLES
I. Geometric Properties
• Vertical Angles:
have equal measures
• Parallel Lines:
in the same plane but do not intersect
• Transversal:
a line that intersects two parallel lines
Parallel lines cut by a transversal form:
• Alternate Interior Angles:
equal measure
• Alternate Exterior Angles:
equal measure
• Same Side Interior Angles:
add up to 180°
• Corresponding Angles:
equal measure
Example 1
II. Triangles
• Angle sum of a triangle is 180°
Example 2
• Types of Triangles:
• By Angles:
Acute
Right
Obtuse
• By Sides:
Equilateral
Isosceles
Scalene
• Similar Triangles:
exactly the same shape but not the same size
For similar triangles…
1. Corresponding angles must have the same
measure
2. Corresponding sides must be proportional
• Congruent Triangles:
same shape and size
Examples 3 - 6
