CIL is the premier supplier of stable isotopes for research applications in proteomics, genomics, molecular biology, metabolic research, clinical and diagnostic research and ultra trace environmental analysis. For over 25 years CIL has provided over 15,000 different research compounds to its base of over 35,000 medical, pharmaceutical, academic and government customers. SSI is a major producer of stable isotope labeled biochemicals including growth media for bacterial, yeast, insect and mammalian cell culture, RNA and DNA derivatives for oligonucleotide synthesis, fatty acids, carbohydrates and amino acids. Stable isotope biochemicals are materials such as amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids in which the naturally occurring abundant isotopes of hydrogen, carbon and nitrogen (1H, 12C, 14N) are replaced with “heavy” stable isotopes of these elements (2H (deuterium), 13C and 15N, respectively). According to Maureen Duffy, CIL’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, “This acquisition expands and complements CIL’s product portfolio of biochemicals and reagents for use within the BioMolecular NMR and Mass Spec research communities. We are particularly excited to be able to Page 1 of 2 offer SSI’s proprietary growth media, Celtone, to our customers and look forward to offering CIL’s newly expanded product offerings to both CIL and SSI customers”. CIL has acquired the proprietary methodology for SSI’s stable isotope labeled biochemicals and plans to continue to offer the full range of SSI products. Page 2 of 2
