Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a University Teaching
Hospital and is a main campus base for Imperial College London Faculty of
Medicine.
The hospital serves the populations of Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith &
Fulham as well as parts of Westminster and Wandsworth. It is an acute hospital with
all the major department specialties, and several tertiary units. It is a national centre
for the treatment of HIV disease, and has recently been awarded Foundation Trust
status.
Within general medicine three megafirms provide ward-based care for inpatients. This
post will be part of megafirm B. The consultant in charge of the firm is
Dr. Michael Pelly and the specialist interests are Acute Medicine, Stroke Medicine
and Infectious diseases. The staff consists of 3 other consultants and 3 Specialist
Registrars, 3 FY2s (SHO) as well as other FY1 posts. The firm has a ward base – Nell
Gwynne Ward - on which is the Stroke Unit and the Neurology beds. There is a multidisciplinary stroke team.
The post rotates with Urology and General/GI surgery. This offers a good general and
specialist introduction to clinical medicine.
